My Story:

I am someone who, like many women, has struggled with my weight my entire life.  I never felt my body was the right size and shape, and certainly not the right weight.   In my early twenties I discovered the joy of working out  and have maintained a daily workout routine for over forty years.

In my early twenties I became a Holistic Health Educator and taught health education workshops in the San Francisco Public Schools, as well as private groups for women.  I also taught Nutrition for the San Francisco Community College District

By the time I was in my thirties I went into a completely different field, built a successful business and got married to a wonderful man who unfortunately developed leukemia about a year and a half into our  twenty-four-year relationship.  Needless to say, I had a lot of additional stress in my life because of his illness and put a lot of my focus on helping him to cope with his chronic and ongoing symptoms.

Over the years I continued with my efforts to lose weight and attended both Overeaters Anonymous and Weight Watchers meetings for over ten years.  Despite my best effort to work these wonderful programs, I could not lose the extra pounds and keep them off.

By the age of 60, even though I maintained my regular exercise regime, I found myself heavier than I’d ever been.  After many years of dealing with my husband’s serious illness, I had fallen into some bad habits and was coping with stress by overeating.  I had a wonderful family, a successful business and an overall great life but just couldn’t seem to stop eating in a way that made me unhappy about how I looked and felt.

After my husband passed away, the first thing I did to get back on my feet was to go back to the gym.  It was the only way I knew to deal with my devastating loss. One day I found myself staring at my reflection in the mirror at the gym and made a promise to myself that I was going to change how I looked and felt about my body.  I wanted to lose the tire around my mid-section.  I wanted to look in the mirror and like what I saw.  I wanted to feel confident and attractive.  I needed to "relaunch".

I decided to get a health coach and approach the effort one step at a time and, with her help, one pound at a time.   Personal weight loss coaching helped  me do what I thought was impossible.  Having someone in my corner who really "got it" made all the difference. I dropped twenty pounds and I’ve kept it off.

My own experience working with a health coach inspired me to return to the field of health and wellness and I have been certified as a Master Health Coach with a specialization in Adult and Senior Wellness.   Specifically I help women over 50 who are struggling with weight loss and/or taking sustained action toward living a healthy long-term lifestyle.
